It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 3 feet to 4 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. With it's dwarf size and weeping, spreading habit, Purple Pixie is just the plant we've been looking for, for decades. Growing to only 1 to 2 feet in height with a spread of 4 to 5 feet, it boasts some of the most intense purple foliage color of any plant on the market, and the color doesn't fade during summer or winter or in sun or in shade. What's more is it produces vibrant pink, witchhazel-like, fringy flowers in spring, appearing occasionally in summer and again in fall. The flowers provide a stunning contrast to the the evergreen purple foliage.

Uses

Purple Pixie Loropetalum works perfectly as a groundcover on slopes, as a border edger in landscape beds or foundation plantings, to cascade over walls in landscape beds, or in containers where it's weeping branches will cascade over the edges of pots.

Culture & Care Tips

When planted in the right location and properly planted, Purple Pixie Loropetalum is easy to grow and low maintance. Plant it in locations that provide well-drained soils and full sun to part shade. To ensure good soil drainage, Plant on sloped ground or in raised mounds. Just keep in mind that constantly wet or soggy soil is a killer of this plant.  Avoid using too heavy a layer of mulch as this can retain to much moisture. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established.  In our trial gardens, we've had Purple Pixie growing in sites that provide anywhere from full sun to half a days shade. No pruning necessary though a stray branch can be snipped any time of year.

Good dwarf variety, unable to find in local nurseries. Later I found that 2 quart size is adequate, don't need 2 gallon.

It takes a while for this one to grow larger, but it is really doing well in my garden. I found the perfect spot for it, and it is thriving. I am so glad I read all of the care information because it really gives you a great bit of knowledge in caring for this plant. It may be fussy, but I love it!

Large healthy plants grew well all summer. Unfortunately, we had an extremely cold - colder than our normal winters where I lost plants I have had growing for 12+ years - and they froze out. I have already made another purchase from ToGoGarden.com (these made it through winter) and will be placing orders in the future.

I received 16 of the "Purple Pixie" Loropetalum in three days with expedited shipping. They arrived in perfect condition. I was totally amazed at how well they were packed to prevent damage. I have been in the "Nursery" business at a major retailer for 13 years. We never received plants in this great condition. I am looking so forward to the display of color contract in my beds surrounding my trees.

The "Pixie" was delivered in the time stated and the packaging was so carefully constructed, that not even a leaf was damaged. It was a bit smaller than I had anticipated, but right now, I can't wait until it grows up so that I can see it in all its splendor.

I love this Purple Pixie Loropetalum, I bought two and neither survived the winter. I had them in a protected place and live in zone 7 which was supposed to be ok. I will try again with it but will keep it in a pot and move it indoors if we have another bad winter like this past one.
