Additional Information About Red Formosa Azalea

Red Formosa Azalea is a fast growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 7A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 6 feet to 8 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, shade, morning sun with afternoon shade, morning shade with afternoon sun or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the spring Red Formosa Azalea produces red and scarlet flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts hummingbirds and visual attention and is resistant to heat.

Red Formosa Azalea can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, as a buffer or screen, in containers or planters, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building, to accentuate entryways or in small groupings and also in theme gardens or cottage gardens.

More about Red Formosa Azalea...

Noteworthy Characteristics

A member of the Southern Indica Azalea family, Red Formosa is most well noted for it's large bright red flowers that appear in early to mid spring. The Southern Indica Azaleas and Encore Azaleas are considered to be the most heat tolerant of all Azaleas. So for those of you that live in the deeper southern regions, Red Formosa is an excellent choice.

Uses

Excellent for use in groupings, flowering shrub borders, natural hedge, mass plantings, home foundation plantings, woodland shade gardens, asian theme gardens, and cottage gardens,

Culture & Care Tips

Azaleas prefer a well draining, moist and acidic soil rich in organic matter. With the exception of Southern Indica and Encore Azaleas, most azaleas prefer some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of the day. Follow the links below for expert planting and care tips.
