Yucca Filamentosa 'Color Guard' is a moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 2 feet to 3 feet and an average width of 2 feet to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is yellow in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat.
Color Guard Yucca can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to accentuate entryways or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens or perennial gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Color Guard Yucca is a dramatic architectural plant that is one of the most beautiful variegated yuccas on the market. Its sword-shaped leaves bear bold central stripes of bright canary-yellow against a rich celadon edge. In cool weather, margins are tinged pink, and the entire yellow stripe turns rose-colored on many of the leaves, lasting through early spring. Plants grow to 2 feet wide and nearly as tall. Branched clusters of nodding, creamy-white bells open in mid-summer on stout stems that reach 6 feet tall.
Uses
Color Guard Yucca can be useful as a colorful accent as a stand alone or in groups in landscape beds. It is also suitable for container gardening where it makes a great centerpiece. Because it is drought tolerant and therefore suitable for Xeriscaping, we like combining it with other plants that have low water needs such as junipers, barberry, loropetalums, ice plant and sedums. Great for rock gardens!
Culture & Care Tips
Color Guard Yucca is adaptable to different light, soil and moisture conditions, prefering an evenly moist well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Exceptionally drought tolerant plant!
This plant is great in a container. I have it in an urn surrounded by succulents. Gardener Direct went out of their way to get me the right sized plant. Best customer service ever!

I couldn't be happier with the two yucca plants, nice sized ,mature plants with a nice big pot for the roots. The box protected the plants very well, not a leaf out of place, I have bookmarked your website for possible purchases in the future.,
Item crushed when post turned it upside down. I did plant it and am trying to coax it to live. Jury still out on that.
