Noteworthy Characteristics
If you're looking for a handsome, hardy, long-lived, absolutely no maintenance evergreen shrub for a foundation planting or natural, low hedge, Carissa Holly is a sure bet and perfect choice! We've seen this shrub survive -10 F and sail through the longest summer droughts. Carissa Holly is exceptionally low maintenance. When spaced properly it never requires pruning and we've seen no serious insect, pest or disease problems. Carissa Holly forms a very dense mounding shrub to 4 to 5 feet in height with a 5 to 6 foot spread. Though most people consider it to be a sun-loving shrub we've found it will also do quite well in shadier sites that receive filtered sun or half a days shade.
Uses
Carissa Holly is the perfect shrub for use in home foundation plantings, but is also useful as a low-maintence hedge, in small to large groupings, in shrub borders, or as erosion control on slopes and embankments.
Culture & Care Tips
Plant Carissa Holly in sunny to partially shaded spots in the landscape in well-drained, moist to somewhat dry soil. Exceptionally drought and cold tolerant when established. No pruning ever necessary!
