Loropetalum Chinense 'Plum Delight' is a fast and moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 7A through 10B. It matures to an average height of 5 feet to 6 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the spring and fall Plum Delight Loropetalum produces pink flowers. The foliage is purple in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.
Plum Delight Loropetalum can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, in containers or planters, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent or for topiary and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens or cottage gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Plum Delight Loropetalum, also known as Chinese Witchazel, is a fast growing evergreen shrub that produces an abundance of bright fuchsia-pink fringe flowers in spring and sporadically throught the year that contrast beautifully with the deep burgundy foliage. Unlike some other purple-leaved varieties, Plum Delight retains its leaf coloration on old and new growth. The new growth is almost as vivid as the flower color.
Uses
Plum Delight Loropetalum grows 6 to 8 feet tall with an equal spread making it an excellent selection for foundation plantings, in shrub borders, or as a small specimen tree, as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall), or as a natural or formal hedge.
Culture
Plum Delight Loropetalum is easy to grow and low maintance. Plant it in locations that provide well-drained soils and full sun to part shade. Though not picky about soil type, well drained and acidic soil is essential for this plant. Pruning is minimal unless you want to shear it into a more formal shape.

I was warned about how this plant might not make it in our climate but was told by a Georgia native who used to work for a nursery SE of Atlanta that he'd planted a hedge of them in Seattle and they were gorgeous there. I live 90 miles north of Seattle near the Puget Sound and planted this in a spot with SW exposure up against the house so that it is blocked by our nasty winter winds that can come out of the Fraser River Valley in Canada. The plant has survived its first winter which was harsh by our standards and is currently blooming!
