Noteworthy Characteristics
Harbour Dwarf Nandina is one of if not the lowest growing varieties of bamboo nandina, reaching about 18 inches in height with a spread of about 2 feet. Just like it's parent, the Bamboo Nandina, Harbour Dwarf produces panicles of white, star-shaped flowers in late spring or early summer which are followed by clusters of bright red berries the birds will love. The soft-textured, bamboo-like, deep green foliage turns to shades of maroon, burgundy, red and a touch of orange during the cool season, adding color and interest in the winter landscape.
Uses
Harbour Dwarf Nandina is most useful in small to large groups as a groundcover or patch. When spaced 24 inches apart plants will fill in nicely to form a soft-textured patch in the garden, making them a perfect choice for underplanting small trees such as Dogwoods, Redbuds or upright Japanese Maples.
Culture & Care Tips
Harbour Dwarf Nandina is easy to grow in locations that provide well-drained soil and sun or shade. Consistently wet or soggy soils can cause problems with the roots. It is exceptionally low maintenance requiring little if any pruning. Over the years we've seen absolutely no problems with insects or disease.
This is one of several Harbour Dwarf Nandinas I have purchased over time from Gardener Direct and all of them arrived in great condition; the ones I planted during the winter months are thriving in my landscape. I highly recommend Gardener Direct.
