Cryptomeria Japonica 'Globosa Nana' is a moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 4 feet to 5 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in loam or clay soil that is well drained or moderately drained. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects and diseases.
Global Dwarf Cryptomeria can be useful in the landscape in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to accentuate entryways, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in theme gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Dwarf Global Japanese Cedar, Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana', is an attractive evergreen shrub that needs no pruning to achieve it's globe shape. The uniquely textured foliage is bright green when young maturing to a medium green. During the cool season the foliage takes on a bronze cast. It grows to about 4 to 5' tall with an equal spread.
Uses
Useful as a focal point specimen anywhere in the sunny landscape, on either side of an entryway in foundation plantings, or as an informal, low maintenance hedge. Also useful in containers.
Culture & Care Tips
Easy to grow in well-drained soils and very low maintenance - never needs pruning. Prefers full sun, but will tolerate afternoon shade. Very drought tolerant when established.
