Additional Information About Jiro Japanese Persimmon

Diospyros Kaki 'Jiro' is a moderate growing tree and fruit bearing plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 15 feet to 20 feet and an average width of 10 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the summer Jiro Persimmon produces light yellow flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts wildlife and visual attention and is resistant to drought, insects, diseases and heat.

Jiro Persimmon can be useful in the landscape in landscape beds or islands and also in theme gardens or cottage gardens.

Jiro is one of the most cold hardy Japanese Persimmon varieties doing well down to USDA zone 6b. It produces crops of large, deep orange and  flat shaped fruits. The taste is sweet and non-astringent.

Health Benefits: Japanese persimmon are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamin A, manganese and fiber, especially soluble fiber. It contains a fair amount of some of the B-complex vitamins, potassium and calcium.
