Noteworthy Characteristics
Green mountain boxwood is a cross between English boxwood and Asian boxwood that is designed to look great while withstanding both cold temperatures and drought in USDA Zones 5-8 (maybe 4-9?). Over time, the Green Mountain Boxwood will grow to about 5 feet in height and 3 feet in width, and will naturally grow into a pyramid shape with no pruning required. That being said, it responds very well to shearing which makes it a really great choice for formal hedges or to trim it into all sorts of cool shapes.
Uses
Green Mountain Boxwood is useful as a single specimen, in small groupings, shrub borders, as a clipped formal hedge, and home foundation plantings.
Culture & Care Tips
The Green Mountain Boxwood is very easy to grow in locations that provide sun or partial shade and, preferably, where it will be protected from drying winds. It will grow in a most any soil type but especially likes rich, loamy, well-drained but moist soils. In warmer climates, the Green Mountain Boxwood will prefer frequent watering during summer drought. If you grow it in a pot check soil moisture more frequently. Mulching with a 2-inch layer of shredded wod mulch helps to retain soil moisture during the summer months. That being said, you don't want the soil to remain consistently soggy as this can cause problems with the roots.
