More About Red Leaf Sea Thrift...Armeria maritima 'Rubrifolia' is a low-growing, clump-forming, compact plant with small, pom pom shaped flowers rising up on stems above the dense, rounded mat of purple-red leaves which spread to about 12 inches in width. The foliage turns bronze in the fall providing interest in the garden. The flowers are excellent for cutting.
Sea Thrift is easily grown in infertile, dry, well-drained soil in full sun. Moist and fertile soil often causes the foliage mats to rot in the center. It is commonly called Sea Thrift because it can be grown in salt environments near the sea side. we've seen no serious pest or disease problems.
Sea Thrift is a small, compact plant that may be used for edging, at the front of the border, in the rock garden, in wall pockets or may be massed to form a ground cover for small areas.
