One in our Toe Tickler Collection, Fire Spinner Ice Plant is a recent introduction producing stunning orange, red, and lavender tricolor flowers that cover a tight, fast spreading mat of succulent evergreen foliage. The flowers are most prolific in spring, reappearing throughout the summer. The attractive apple-green foliage keeps its shiny presence even through winter.
At only 2 inches tall and a spread of up to 24 inches, Fore Spinner is perfect as a groundcover or border in garden beds, on slopes, and rock gardens, combined with other plants that have low water needs. It is perfect for the waterwise xeriscape. It is also suitable for container gardening where it makes a colorful soil cover and will spill over the edges of pots. If planted in container use lots of sand and small gravel to insure good drainage.
Being an exceptionally drought tolerant plant when established, Fore Spinner is easy to grow in any well drained soil and full sun to part shade. Good drainage is essential. Constantly soggy or wet soils can cause roots and plants to rot. Avoid overwatering. Young plants will require occasional watering during dry spells of summer.
