More About Krebs 2 Hen And Chicks...

Evergreen rosettes of fleshy gray green, burgundy-flushed leaves make 'Krebs 2' a colorful addition to the succulent garden. It is one of many outstanding hybrid sempervivums deriving from alpine species native to the mountains of southern Europe and western Asia. The rosettes develop by short-stalked offsets into crowded, colorful, richly textured mats. In summer the older rosettes send out thick erect stems bristling with stubby pointed leaves and topped with dense clusters of tightly packed pink blooms.

Hen and Chicks are perfect for planting around rocks and boulders in rock gardens and garden ponds, container garden of all types, rooftop gardens and rock walls.

Very easy to grow, Hen and Chicks prefer a very well-drained, sandy or rocky soil and full sun to part shade. Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic.

Hen and Chicks are very low maintenance, drought tolerant plants that require no fertilization. After flowering, the mother rosette dies to leave room for the chicks: remove this by tugging gently at the base of the bloom stem. Plants are not bothered by deer and have no serious insect or disease problems.
