More About Green Wheel Hen & Chicks...

Among the easiest plants to grow, Hen-and-chicks tolerate heat, drought and neglect with style. All types form a low cushion or carpet of fleshy leaves, tiny new plants appearing in a circle around the mother in the middle.

'Green Wheel' is a selection of Hen and Chicks that has medium-large pointy rosettes of bright-green foliage. Short spikes of pastel flowers appear in summer.

Hen and Chicks are perfect for planting around rocks and boulders in rock gardens and garden ponds, container garden of all types, rooftop gardens and rock walls.

Very easy to grow, Hen and Chicks prefer a very well-drained, sandy or rocky soil and full sun to part shade. Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic.

Hen and Chicks are very low maintenance, drought tolerant plants that require no fertilization. After flowering, the mother rosette dies to leave room for the chicks: remove this by tugging gently at the base of the bloom stem. Plants are not bothered by deer and have no serious insect or disease problems.
