Robin Holly is a moderate growing shrub and tree that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 12 feet to 20 feet and an average width of 8 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade, morning shade with afternoon sun or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. The foliage is burgundy and dark green in color. It attracts wildlife and songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.

Robin Holly can be useful in the landscape in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building, to add property value or grown flat against a wall and also in theme gardens or cottage gardens.

Robin Holly, part of the "Red Holly" group, is an upright growing, pyramidal holly with striking maroon new foliage that becomes dark green and an abundance of red berries giving this evergreen selection a regal flair. The habit and cold endurance is similar to Nellie R. Stevens holly but about half the size, maturing to 14 feet tall by about 8 feet wide.

Uses

Robin Holly is tidy and polished in form making it useful as a specimen. It's dense enough that it works well planted in straight or curved rows as a visual, wind, and noise buffer.  It would also be dramatic lining a drive or property line, clustered about an entryway, or to frame the corners of a taller home or other building.

Culture

Prefers sun to part shade and well drained, moist, acidic soil. No pruning necessary however can be clipped to a more formal shape.
