Noteworthy Characteristics

Cityline® Mars is an exciting new mophead Hydrangea variety that produces spectacular, giant (6-inch), truly bicolored flowerheads of either magenta or blue flower petals edged in creamy white. In neutral to alkaline soils the flowers will be magenta...in acid soil, blue. The flowerheads are held above compact mounds (1-3 feet tall by 3-4 feet wide - smaller in containers) of deep green foliage on strong, sturdy stems that won't flop. The flowers begin to appear in early summer and continue into fall. They are great for cutting and use in fresh or dried floral arrangements. What's more, the large, toothed, deep green leaves are mildew-free, even in humid and rainy climates!

The compact size of Cityline® Mars Hydrangea lends well to containers or garden beds. Use it as a specimen in small garden spaces or in groupings in larger garden spaces. Also great as an accent in foundation plantings, as a low hedge, in flowering shrub borders and in cottage gardens.

Culture & Care Tips

Cityline® Mars Hydrangea prefers full sun in northern zones and some afternoon shade or filtered sun the farther south you go. Adapts to various soil stypes however prefers a well-drained moist, loamy soil. Not too wet though...Hydrangea don't like constantly soggy soil. To change the bloom color from pink to blue apply Aluminum Sulfate, and from blue to pink apply lime.

USDA Zones: 5-9
