Planting Instructions: Dig the planting hole to be at least twice the width of the root ball, 3 times the width is even better. In heavy clay soil thoroughly mix a soil conditioner or organic mateer in with the soil removed from the planting hole. Do not plant too deep. Set the plant in the hole and make sure the top edge of the rootball is slightly above the ground level. Backfill the hole tampng as you go to remove air pockets. Do not place any soil on top of rootball. Water deeply after planting and apply a 1 to 2 inch layer of mulch around the planting area to control weed growth and reduce water needs. Do not apply mulch directly against the trunk of a plant. Water as necessary to keep the soil damp (not wet) during the first growing season. Do not overwater! Constantly soggy or wet soil is a killer.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Named after Swift Creek Nursery, the company that first introduced it to the market, Swift Creek Privet is a very fast growing evergreen shrub. Just like it's parent, Swift Creek is very fast growing and produces very colorful and showy variegated foliage, all in a smaller package. Whereas the species can grow well over 10 feet in height and width, Swift Creek tops out around 5 feet with a similar spread. Each leaf on Swift Creek is white with a green center and because it's evergreen this mounding shrub can be enjoyed year round. In spring, Swift Creek produces an abundance of fragrant, white flower clusters.
Uses
Swift Creek Variegated Privet is useful to create formal or natural hedges. Swift Creek can be useful in large containers as a small tree. Simply remove lower branches as the shrub grows.
