It matures to an average height of 2 feet to 3 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is yellow and bronze in color. It attracts visual attention and songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, drought, diseases, mildew and heat.
Saybrook Gold Juniper can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands, for erosion control, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens or perennial gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Saybrook Gold Juniper displays striking color all year long. Arching sprays of bright golden foliage during the warm season and bronzy-copper in the winter add a wonderful color contrast to the garden.
Uses
Excellent for use as a single specimen, groupings, shrub borders, natural hedge, clipped formal hedge, in mass plantings, home foundation plantings, for erosion control on slopes and embankments, in asian theme gardens, or just about any sunny area in the landscape where a color and/or foliage texture contrast is desired.
Culture & Care Tips
Saybrook Gold is easy to grow and is very low maintenance; requiring no pruning unless to maintain a shape. It adapts to a wide variety of soils provided they are well-drained. Prefers full sun to mostly sun.
