Eupatorium Rugosum 'Chocolate' is a moderate growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 3 feet to 5 feet and an average width of 2 feet to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the summer and fall Chocolate Eupatorium produces white flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts butterflies, wildlife, visual attention and songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, insects, diseases and heat.
Chocolate Eupatorium can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, as a border or edger, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.
