Additional Information About Butterfly Milkweed

Butterfly Milkweed is a moderate growing wild flower and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 3A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 3 feet and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the summer Butterfly Milkweed produces orange flowers. The foliage is medium green and dark green in color. It attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and visual attention and is resistant to drought and heat.

Butterfly Milkweed can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, hummingbird gardens or perennial gardens.
