Ilex Attenuata 'Savannah' is a moderate growing shrub and tree that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 15 feet to 30 feet and an average width of 8 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Savannah Holly produces white flowers. The foliage is medium green in color. It attracts songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.

Savannah Holly can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, as a background, for topiary, to provide shade, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, for erosion control or to add property value and also in theme gardens.

Savannah Holly has a pyramidal growth habit with lustrous, green leaves with 2 or 3 teeth on each side. One of the faster growing hollies, as well as one of the heaviest berry producers. Grows tall and wide enough to provide shade.

Uses

Savannah Holly is very commonly used in many landscapes due to its prolific berry production, and hardiness. Makes an excellent, screen, border, or can even be used in taller hedge situations too. It also works well as an single-trunk, evergreen specimen tree.

Culture

As with most other upright holly, this one likes full sun to part shade and prefers a moist but well-drained acidic soil, however is exceptionally drought tolerant when established. Naturally takes on a pyramidal form however can be clipped occasionally for a more formal appearance.
