Keep in mind, there are two different types of muscadines: 1) 'Self-Fertile' types - which are self-pollinating, and 2) 'Self-Sterile' (female) types - which must be planted in close proximity to 'Self-Fertile' types in order to produce fruit. With just a little homework, you can select the perfect muscadine varieties for your garden - click the link below to use the Muscadine Variety Information Sheet to help make your selections.
'Black Fry' muscadine vines ripen in Early to Mid-season, are very productive, and have large, deliciously sweet, blackish-red fruit! 'Black Fry' is very cold hardy and disease resisitant, and has a Soluble Sugar content of 17-18%. Black muscadines make the most beautiful jams, jellies, and preserves - and the juice and wine from black muscadines is also some of the best tasting!
