Need help choosing the right varieties of Muscadines?

This is the fun part! There are lots of Muscadine varieties to choose from - each offers fruit with its own, truly unique attributes. Among these are: 'Size', 'Color', 'Soluble Sugar%', is a 'Pollinator' required for fertilization/fruiting, typical 'Ripening' period, and more.  What really should determine which muscadine varieties you choose is what 'Uses' you have planned for them. Why not plant an assortment of Early-Mid-Late season varieties, and extend your muscadine harvest season?  Keep in mind, there are two different types of muscadines: 1) 'Self-Fertile' types - which are self-pollinating, and 2) 'Self-Sterile' (female) types - which must be planted in close proximity to 'Self-Fertile' types in order to produce fruit. With just a little homework, you can select the perfect muscadine varieties for your garden - click the link below to use the Muscadine Variety Information Sheet to help make your selections.

More about Alachua Muscadine...

'Alachua' is a very solid, self-fertile, muscadine cultivar! It has good disease resistance, and a strong, sweet muscadine flavor - likely inherited from its 'Southland' parent. Flavor is best when you wait for it to fully ripen - which can push back the ideal picking times - sometimes extending the harvest of this Mid-season muscadine variety later into the season.  Weighing in at ~10g, 'Alachua' fruit size may not be as large as some of the other varieties - but the vine's good disease resistance and great flavor make it a perfect selection for home use!
