One of our 'Toe Tickler' Collection, 'Goldwell' Veronica is a rapidly-spreading semi-evergreen perennial with tiny, narrow, variegated yellow and green foliage, which takes on a red flush during the winter months. The plant reaches just 3 inches high when not in bloom, but quickly spreads to 18 inches wide. In spring, short spikes of blue-violet flowers with white eyes are a wonderful contrast to the colorful foliage and are attractive to butterflies.
Plants form a low, tight mat making this a beautiful edging plant, great when massed as a groundcover or grown in the rock garden. 'Goldwell' rapidly fills in bare garden spots without choking out less vigorous plants and works well on small scale embankments. It can take light foot traffic, and can be planted between stones in a walkway or next to the garden pond. It also works well in containers where the cacading foliage adds interesting appeal.
Goldwell Veronica is an easy and reliable grower, with good drought tolerance, preferring well-drained soils and full sun to part shade. It tolerates heat and drought once established and has shown good deer and rabbit resistance.
Maintenance is minimal. After flowering, sheer the flowers to maintain an especially dense and compact habit.
