With leaves about the size of a dime, 'Silky Fleece', one of our Toe Tickler Selections, is an irresistible Lambs' Ear that has the same great soft, silky texture and silver color as other lambs' ears, just in a smaller package, growing to about 2-10 inches tall and wide. The furry leaves are about 3 to 4 inches in length and form a dense mat to about 2 to 3 inches above the ground. Lilac-plum flower spikes rise above the foliage from mid- to late summer on 8 to 10 inch stalks.
Grow Silky Fleece Lambs Ear as edging or in patches along garden beds, in containers, or in rock gardens.
Silky Fleece is easy to grow provided it gets plenty of sun and is planted in well-drained soils. It does prefer cooler climates without too much heat and humidity. The flowers can be dried for crafts or removed to maintain uniformity as a groundcover.
