'New Century' is a low-growing, spreading variety of Veronica that is drought tolerant and perfect for use as a groundcover. Low mats of tiny, green leaves are covered in spring with multitudes of small, pretty, sky-blue flowers. The foliage remains evergreen in warmer zones, taking on an attractive purple hue in winter. ‘New Century’ is the result of a cross between the Mediterranean species V. liwanensis and V. pectinata.
Veronica ‘New Century’ thrives in full sun and performs best in gritty, well-drained soil.
Its prostrate habit and tolerance of hot, dry conditions makes Veronica ‘New Century’ an excellent choice for waterwise gardens. It looks beautiful creeping between stepping stones or spilling over rocks and low, stone retaining walls.
