More About Rupturewort...

Herniaria, commonly called Rupturewort, is a creeping, mat-forming plant with tiny, tightly packed leaves that form a very dense groundcover. The foliage turns red during winter providing great winter interest. Tiny white star-shaped flowers are produced during summer.

Rupturewort is perfect for planting in the gaps between stepping stones or pavers, along paths or walkways or as a lawn substitute. It also works well as a soil cover in container gardens.

Rupturewort is one of those unsung heroes that is definitely underused. This plant has such a small flower that you need a magnifying glass to see it, yet that should not stop you. When looking for a green substitute for lawn, this one does the trick well. It’s not fancy, not tricky, but a solid workhorse of a plant.
