Erodium X Variabile 'Bishops Form' is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 6 inches to 1 foot, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the spring, summer and fall Bishop Form Erodium produces pink and fuchsia flowers. The foliage is medium green in color.
Bishop Form Erodium can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as a groundcover, between stepping stones and pavers, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, cottage gardens or perennial gardens.
Similar in appearance to perennial geranium, Erodium x variabile 'Bishop's Form', commonly known as Pink Cranesbill, Pink Heron's Bill, or Storksbill, creates a dynamic display of pretty pink to rosy five-petaled flowers veined in deep fuchsia appear spring through early fall. The flowers are attractive to butterflies making it another suitable addition to the butterfly garden. The deep green slowly spreading foliage grows to about 6 inches tall and spreads up to 2 feet, making it a very attractive and easy to maintain perennial groundcover.
Due to it's spreading habit, Erodium 'Bishop's Form' makes a great border along the edges of gardens, along retaining walls, or in the crevices or gaps of rock walls and stepping stones. It is a nice small scale groundcover as well and is a great addition to a mixed container planting.
It is ideally suited for part sun with extremely well-draining alkaline soil. Sufficient drainage is a must. A true dwarf, it grows to four inches tall, spreading very slowly, so care must be taken not to position it amidst larger perennials that will overwhelm it.
