'Ogon Nishiki' is a boldly variegated Asian Jasmine that shows off dark green leaves which are boldly variegated in yellow with orange to red new growth. As with it's cousins, it is a dense, fast growing, trailing groundcover or climbing vine. When growing as a climber fragrant, creamy-white flower will appear from late spring to mid-summer.
We like to use Asian Jasmine as a groundcover in large areas and on embankments. It will grow equally as well in sun or shade and is perfect for use under large trees, where not much else will grow. It can also be useful to spice up containers where it's attractive variegated foliage will spill over the edges. With support it can be very useful as a climber on trellises, posts, fences, the mailbox. and other structures.
Asian Jasmine is very easy to grow. It prefers moist, well-drained soil for best establishment. We've found that after the first year it is very drought tolerant. It tolerates deep shade to full sun, however likes some shade in the afternoon in southern zones.
When planted in locations where it has room to grow, Asian Jasmine is low maintenance. If planted too closely to borders occasional trimming/edging will be necessary to keep it in bounds. Usually this plant is evergreen, however, severe cold may cause it to drop some foliage.
