Vinca Major 'Variegata' is a fast growing vining plant and groundcover plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 11. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 3 feet to 8 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam or clay soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Variegated Vinca Major produces blue and lavender flowers. The foliage is white and medium green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, foot traffic, mildew and heat.
Variegated Vinca Major can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in containers or planters, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, under a shade tree, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands or for erosion control and also in theme gardens, cottage gardens or shade gardens.
Vinca major 'Variegata' (sometimes commonly called large periwinkle, bigleaf pewriwinkle, greater periwinkle or blue buttons) is an evergreen, prostrate, mat-forming plant with long trailing stems that is widely used as a ground cover and container plant. North of USDA Zone 7, it is more commonly used as a container plant.
The large 3" long leaves of 'Variegata' are ovate to lanceolate and are variegated with green leaves and white edges. Tubular, phlox-like, violet blue flowers that are 2" across bloom in the leaf axils in spring, and usually continue to bloom intermittently throughout the summer into fall. Trailing stems root at the nodes as they go along the ground and quickly spread to form an attractive ground cover. Dense foliage may grow up to 14” tall.
Reliably winter hardy in USDA Zones 7-9, Bigleaf Periwinkle can be grown in average, dry to medium to moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. In hotter climates it prefers shade in the afternoon hours. Space 8” apart for quick cover of smaller areas. Space 12-18” apart to cover large areas.
Aside from its ability to form a quick groundcover in partially shaded environments, Bigleaf Periwinkle also works well in hanging baskets, window boxes, and other containers. When used as a groundcover, bulbs and other deciduous perennials will pop right through in spring. Because the vines form roots as they go it is also very effective on slopes or banks to stabilize soils and prevent erosion.

Very pleased with the quality of the plants I received. Strong, healthy, beautiful.
Thanks for the kind words James!
Arrived well-packed & easy to plant; it is thriving & has already also climbed 2 feet on our trellis; you must be careful, however, that it doesn't intrude on other plants so be vigilant about this fast grower.
