Additional Information About Bamboo Muhly Grass

Bamboo Muhly Grass is a moderate growing ornamental grass that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 8A through 11. It matures to an average height of 4 feet to 5 feet and an average width of 3 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is light green and medium green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat.

Bamboo Muhly Grass can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, as a background, as an accent, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to accentuate entryways, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens or perennial gardens.

More About Bamboo Muhly Grass...

If you're a fan of Pink or White Muhly, you're gonna love this soft-textured beauty. A feathery, chartreuse cloud in the garden, it looks so soft you won't be able to pass by it without running your hands through it's delicate foliage. Unlike it's flowering cousins, it doesn't produce the showy fall blooms. However, you may notice masses of small flowers at the tips of the foliage when the grass is in bloom, at which time the plants take on a pinkish cast. But it's the soft billowy foliage that gives the landscape a totally unique look. Upon closeup observation you'll think this Muhly is a miniature bamboo, hence the name...but it's not a bamboo. With a name like bamboo, you might think it's an invasive spreader like some of the running bamboo. However, Bamboo Muhly is a clumping ornamental grass that spreads slowly from underground stems. Though it grows 4 to 6 feet in high and wide, it never becomes invasive. Grow it in the ground or in containers, whick allows northern gardeners above USDA Zone 8a to overwinter it indoors.

IMPORTANT! - Do not cut back lower than 8 inches above ground in late winter.
