Vaccinium Ashei 'Bonita' is a moderate growing fruit bearing plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 7B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 5 feet to 8 feet and an average width of 6 feet to 8 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in loam soil that is well drained. In the spring Bonita Rabbiteye Blueberry produces cream and white flowers. The foliage is blue green in color.
Bonita Rabbiteye Blueberry can be useful in the landscape as a background, in shrub borders, in landscape beds or islands, in small groupings or as a hedge and also in cottage gardens.

A 1985, University of Florida release, Bonita has a fairly vigorous growth habit, with medium lateral spread. Bonita produces firm, medium-large size berries that are light blue in color, and have very good flavor. As an early flowering/ripening rabbiteye variety, Bonita will be one of the first blueberries in the garden ready to pick - but for the same reasons, it is also more susceptible to late frost/freeze damage, especially if planted in more northerly areas of its growing zones. In warmer regions that risk is greatly reduced, and Bonita will become a perennial favorite for its early season crop of beautiful, light blue, flavorful berries.
