Noteworthy Characteristics
'Severn Sea' Rosemary is a dense, spreading, evergreen shrub with arching branches and with larger, linear-shaped leaves (up to 2" long) than other varieties and an aroma that isn't quite as strong. Whorls of small, two-lipped, bright blue flowers are produced in spring and again in late summer and fall that contrast nicely with the deep green foliage. It's low and spreading habit makes Severn Sea particularly handsome in hanging containers or where it can cascade over a wall. Very pretty and pleasantly aromatic, this cultivar is widely used for landscaping, as well as for culinary uses!
Growing & Harvesting Information
Rosemary is easy to grow and very adapatable to soil types provided they are well-drained. That being said, it prefers a light, sandy, well-drained soil. Constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Water as needed until fully established during its first year and then only occasionaly as needed. It prefers full to mostly sun. If desired, lightly shear for shaping after flowering in spring and apply a general timed release fertilizer at that time. For culinary use, the leaves can be harvested year round.
Uses & Cooking Information
In the garden, Serve Seas Rosemary is useful as a border, to grow over walls, in rock gardens, on embankments and slopes and in container gardens and hanging baskets. It has many, many culinary uses.
