Miscanthus Sinensis 'Cosmopolitan' is a fast growing ornamental grass that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 5 feet to 6 feet and an average width of 4 feet to 6 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam or clay soil that is well drained. In the summer Cosmopolitan Grass produces white flowers. The foliage is grey / silver in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.
Cosmopolitan Grass can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, as a buffer or screen, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as a background, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands or for erosion control and also in cottage gardens or perennial gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
This stunning variety of Miscathus grass has large coppery-pink flowers over wide, boldly variegated creamy-white and green leaves. The foliage dries and turns a light tan shade for the winter. Useful as a specimen, in the border, or for mass planting. Trim to the ground in late winter or early spring.
