Obsidian Heuchera-(Heuchera X Hybrid 'Obsidian') is a fast growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 6 inches to 1 foot, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the summer Obsidian Heuchera-(Heuchera X Hybrid 'Obsidian') produces white flowers. The foliage is purple in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat.
Obsidian Heuchera-(Heuchera X Hybrid 'Obsidian') can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, under a shade tree or in landscape beds or islands and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens, cottage gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.
'Obsidian' the darkest color Heuchera we offer exhibits smooth as glass almost black leaves with a glassy sheen. The surface and edges of the rounded leaves are so smooth they look like they have been polished. Their undersides are deep purple and exhibit the same glassy finish. To add to this dark show, 24" tall scapes rising above the mounds of foliage bear smoky purple buds that open to cream-white flowers. Villosa parentage provides enhanced heat tolerance.
