Frances Williams Hosta Lily is a slow and moderate growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 3A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 3 feet to 4 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the summer Frances Williams Hosta Lily produces white and soft lavender flowers. The foliage is blue green and yellow in color.
Frances Williams Hosta Lily can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, under a shade tree, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in hummingbird gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.
Discovered by Frances Williams in the mid1930's, this hosta produces large, impressive mounds of very large, attractively puckered blue-green leaves variegated with irregular chartreuse margins. The plant grows to about 24 inches tall with a spread to 48-60 inches over time! Funnel-shaped white flowers with lilac-hues rise above the foliage on 30 inch scapes.
