Noteworthy Characteristics
Native to the Sonoran Desert, White Desert Plumbago, Plumbago scandens, is a sprawling perennial producing abundant clusters of pure-white tubular flowers that glow against the deep green foliage. Though exceptionally drought tolerant in the desert, when provided water during dry periods it will produce lots of lush growth and flowers.
Uses
White Plumbago is useful as a colorful accent or in groupings in landscape beds and foundation plantings, in mass on embankments and slopes, as an informal low hedge, filler plant, or to cascade over the edges of containers or hanging baskets. It is also great for under trees or tall shrubs as a groundcover or to climb fences or walls with the support of a trellis. Where not winter hardy, it can be used outdoors as an annual in beds or as a container plant that can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse when low temperatures drop below 40 degrees.
