Noteworthy Characteristics

Glen St. Mary is a much smaller, compact form of Elaeagnus. Most noted for it's unique silvery-gray to dark green foliage color, Glen St. Mary as well displays small, creamy white bell shaped flowers that are strongly fragrant. The flowers appear in fall and are follwed by silvery-red oval berry-like drupes. Elaeagnus provides year round interest and visual enjoyment.

Excellent for use as a single specimen, in groupings, flowering shrub borders, shrub borders, natural hedge, clipped formal hedge, visual screen or wind and noise buffer, mass plantings, home foundation plantings, erosion control on slopes and embankments, espalier (grown flat against a wall), butterfly gardens, wildlife gardens, asian theme gardens, cottage gardens, or just about anywhere in the garden that gets lots of sun.

Culture & Care Tips

Grows best in full sun. Prefers average, well drained soil. Watch out for the thorns when pruning. Unlike larger growing Elaeagnus, Glen St Mary has smaller and fewer thorns.
