Juniperus Virginiana 'Brodie' is a fast and moderate growing shrub and tree that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 15 feet to 20 feet and an average width of 8 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Brodie Juniper produces light yellow and maroon flowers. The foliage is medium green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat. If you like fragrance, Juniperus Virginiana 'Brodie' has fragrant foliage.
Brodie Juniper can be useful in the landscape as a buffer or screen, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building, to accentuate entryways or in medians and also in theme gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Brodie Juniper is a hardy coniferous evergreen with handsome, bright green, feathery-light foliage on an upright, conical-columnar form. Red-brown, peeling bark add to its appeal. Fast growing, it can reach 25 feet tall with a spread of 6-8 feet.
Uses
Single Specimen, Groups, Hedges & Screens, Home Foundation Plantings
Culture
Brodie Juniper grows well in neutral to slightly acidic well-drained soil, including sandy soil locations. Full-sun locations are ideal, but Spartan does grow in partial shade. It is drought tolerant when established so seldom requires irrigation and declines if soil remains wet.
