A highly ornamental, low-growing bamboo with new leaves in spring that are golden yellow with green stripes. The leaves are about 7 inches in length by 1.5 inches wide and are densely hairy on the lower surface. Best in shade or filtered light. Morning sun is okay. Grown in more sunlight, the leaves tend to be more green with a darker green stripe. Old culms can be mowed in winter making way for brilliant new growth in spring. A very attractive ground cover, accent plant or container plant.
Dwarf Green Stripe is a running bamboo, which means it spreads. New shoots that emerge in spring can be destroyes to control spread. Root pruning, a Bamboo Root Barrier or growing plants in above- or below-ground containers are other methods to control spread.
Gardener Direct also carries Bamboo fertilizer and planting soil containing Biochar, a highly porous material that allows for long term water and nutrient holding capabilities.
