Additional Information About Dwarf Fernleaf Bamboo

Description

Pleioblastus 'Mini' is the most dwarf of the running bamboo. It makes for an excellent spreading groundcover in partially shaded environments. Morning sun with afternoon shade or all day filtered sunlight would be perfect. It can be maintained at only 4" tall by a once a year mowing. However, it will not handle foot traffic. For an area that you don't like mowing regularly and has little to no foot traffic this is perfect. Mow in early spring to encourage fresh new growth for the season. Also does well in pots indoors and out. Its delicate appearance has earned it the name "fern-leaf bamboo."

'Mini' is a running bamboo, which means it spreads. Destroying shoots as they emerge in spring is one way to easily manage bamboo. Root pruning, a Bamboo Root Barrier or growing plants in above- or below-ground containers are other methods to control spread.

Gardener Direct also carries Bamboo fertilizer and planting soil containing Biochar, a highly porous material that allows for long term water and nutrient holding capabilities.
