Noteworthy Characteristics

Mount Airy Fothergilla, often abbreviated as "Mt. Airy," is noted for it's profuse spring flowering, excellent summer foliage, excellent fall color, and consistently upright habit. Terminal, bottlebrush-like spikes of tiny fragrant, apetulous, white flowers bloom in Spring. The flowers have a wonderful honey scented fragrance. Leathery leaves, 2"-4" long are dark green above a bluish gray beneath. The foliage turns to magnificent shades of yellow, orange and red-purple in Fall.

Group or mass in shrub borders, foundation plantings, native plantings, flowering shrub borders, natural hedge, home foundation plantings, cottgae gardens, or just about anywhere in the garden that gets 3-4 hours or more of direct sun each day.
