Noteworthy Characteristics
The Pink Climbing Hydrangea, Schizophragma hydrangiodes ‘Roseum’, will dazzle the eye in summer with flat clusters of flowers that have white centers surrounded by pink florets. After bloom, the flower clusters dry and become a nice, contrasting beige and tan. The dark green, heart-shaped, serrated leaves have notably lighter-green veins and in fall turn yellow. Reddish-brown bark provides winter interest. Become a quite large self-clinging viner that readily clings to flat walls or tree trunks and will also spread as a groundocover.
Uses
Arbors & Arches, Groundcover, Poles, Tree Climber, Walls made of Stone, Brick, Wood, Stucco and othe porous surfaces.
Culture & Care Tips
'Roseum' prefers a well-drained, moist soil rich in organic matter. Prefers part shade. It is best to locate the plant a foot or so away from the tree or wall to give its trunk room to thicken over the years. Prune in late winter or early spring before new leaves emerge, removing only awkward or stray stems.
