Emily Bruner Holly is a slow and moderate growing shrub and tree that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 15 feet to 30 feet and an average width of 8 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Emily Bruner Holly produces white flowers. The foliage is medium green and dark green in color. It attracts songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.
Emily Bruner Holly can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building or to add property value and also in theme gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Emily Brunner is a beautiful upright pyramidal growth habit. The large, serrated, medium green leaves are especially attractive and showy yellow flowers in spring are unusually striking for a holly plant, producing an abundance of red berries in fall. A row of Emily Brunner Holly makes one of the best evergreen screens available.
Uses
Emily Brunner holly is tidy and polished in form making it useful as a specimen. It's dense enough that it works well as a windbreak and the dense, spined foliage make it a good choice for a barrier hedge. It would also be dramatic lining a drive, clustered about an entryway, or to frame the corners of a taller home or other building.
Culture
Prefers sun to part shade and well drained moist acidic soil. Does not require pruning however responds well to occasional clippping for a more formal appearance.
