Peridot Yellow Ice Plant is a moderate growing groundcover plant, perennial plant and succulent plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 11. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand soil that is well drained. In the spring, summer and fall Peridot Yellow Ice Plant produces yellow, bright yellow and white flowers. The foliage is medium green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought and heat.
Delosperma Jewel of the Desert ‘Peridot’ is dwarf hybrid Ice Plant with a profusion of eye catching, dime-sized yellow flowers with white eyes. An ever-blooming variety, the plant grows as a tight mound of evergreen leaves and makes a nice, small-scale groundcover.
This plant gets it's name because the foliage is cold to the touch.
Delosperma is perfect as a groundcover or border in garden beds, on slopes, and rock gardens combined with other plants that have low water needs. It is perfect for the xeriscape. It is also suitable for container gardening where it makes a colorful soil cover and will spill over the edges of pots. If planted in container use lots of sand and small gravel to insure good drainage.
Being an exceptionally drought tolerant plant when established, Ice Plant is easy to grow in any well drained soil and full sun to part shade. Good drainage is essential. Constantly soggy or wet soils can cause roots and plants to rot. Avoid overwatering. Young plants will require occasional watering during dry spells of summer.
