Ajuga Sparkler is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in sand or loam soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring Ajuga Sparkler produces powder blue flowers. The foliage is yellow, chartreuse, light green, medium green and dark green in color.
Ajuga Sparkler can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as an accent, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in theme gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.
This outstanding variegated foliage of 'Sparkler' will light up the floor of a shady to partially shaded garden like nothing else. Come winter, the variegated foliage takes on amazing pink tones. Warm weather with new growth brings out even more variegation. To top things off, lovely blue flowers nearly cover the foliage in spring.
Perfect for use as a groundcover, as an edging along walkways, around boulders, or as an accent in container gardens, the 'Sparkler' Ajuga plant boasts some outstanding variegated scalloped leaves. It has thick, dark green, shiny leaves that look as though they've been splashed with creamy-white paint!
Ajuga appreciates well drained soil and some afternoon shade to full shade in hotter climates of the South.
