Verbena Canadensis 'Homestead Red' is a fast growing groundcover plant, annual bedding and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 1 foot to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the spring, summer and fall Homestead Red Verbena produces red flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, diseases and heat.
Homestead Red Verbena can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as a groundcover, in hanging baskets, in landscape beds or islands, in medians or in annual flower beds and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, hummingbird gardens or perennial gardens.
