Pony Tails Grass is a moderate growing ornamental grass that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 10B. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is yellow in color. It attracts visual attention and songbirds / birds and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat.
Pony Tails Grass can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, for erosion control, to accentuate entryways or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens, cottage gardens or perennial gardens.
Also known as Mexican Feather Grass, Pony Tails Grass is a delicate but tough plant with graceful foliage and airy flower heads that provide a unique, soft texture in the landscape or garden. The foliage and the flower heads sway gently with the slightest breeze.
Ponty Tails Grass is useful in landscape or garden beds and in containers. It can be planted as a specimen or in small to large mass plantings to create a soft but stunning effect. Because it is exceptionally drought tolerant when established it combines well with other plants that have low water needs such as, sedums, barberry, loropetalum, yucca, and other ornamental grasses.
Pony Tails Grass is easy to grow when provided with very well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. It requires little maintenance. Prune one time a year in late winter before new growth begins to emerge in spring.
Grass is growing well. Healthy plants.
The Mexican Ponytail Grass arrived and was healthy. It is in the ground now and I will know later this year if it likes North Carolina.
The plant itself is great. I was very disappointed with the size if the plant. I’ve ordered same plant in quart size from other companies and received a larger plant and at a much cheaper price. Very disappointing.
