Ophiopogon Japonicus 'Silver' is a slow and moderate growing groundcover plant, ornamental grass and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 7A through 11. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 6 inches to 1 foot, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the summer Silver Mist Variegated Mondo Grass produces violet and lavender flowers. The foliage is white and dark green in color.
Silver Mist Variegated Mondo Grass can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, under a shade tree, as a groundcover, in hanging baskets, as a focal point or in landscape beds or islands and also in theme gardens, cottage gardens or shade gardens.
Silver Mist is a Mondo Grass that has attractive silvery-green thin foliage that is striped with cream and grows in a compact tufted form. Short spikes of tiny white flowers are produced but these aren't notable...it's the foliage of this plant that steals the show!
Silver Mist Mondo Grass is a first-class ground cover that forms a lush carpet of grass-like foliage. It is similar in appearance to Silver Dragon Liriope but with much thinner blades that provide a softer texture. It reaches about 6 to 8 inches high about a foot wide or more spreading by underground stems.
Silver Mist Mondo Grass is a perfect plant for medium to full shade conditions and is a great filler for containers and beds. It is a useful groundcover, especially under trees, and is ideal to use for bordering paths, in the front of borders, in rock gardens, and in crevice between boulders around the garden pond.
Mondo grass likes part to full shade, and regular water, especially if planted under the canopies of large shade trees which tend to soak a lot of moisture from the soil. It prefers a moist well-drained soil. Mondo grass can be mowed or sheared in late winter before new growth beings in spring.
