Symphyotrichum Novae-Angliae 'Kickin Carmine Red' is a moderate growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 2 feet to 3 feet and an average width of 2 feet to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. In the summer and fall Kickin Carmine Red Aster produces red flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts butterflies and visual attention and is resistant to deer and heat.
Kickin Carmine Red Aster can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in cottage gardens, butterfly gardens or perennial gardens.
Masses of intensely bright, deep fuchsia-red flowers with a gold button center adorn Carmine Red Aster late summer through mid-fall. As many other flowering perennials are winding down for the cooler season, Carmine Red is bursting forth with a magnificent splash of color.
