Noteworthy Characteristics
Native to Mexico, the Fragrant Pink Panama Rose, Rondeletia leucophylla, also commonly known as Bush Penta, produces an abundance of fragrant flower clusters the butterflies and hummingbirds love. The penta-like clusters of tightly packed tubular purplish-pink tubular blooms are borne throughout late winter and spring and periodically throughout the year. The scent of the flowers starts out light during the day and grows more instense in the evenings and during the night. Make sure to plant this one near windows and outdoor living and sitting areas where the fragrance can be enoyed and you can watch the butterflies and hummingbirds flock to it.
Uses
Panama Rose is useful as a colorful accent or specimen shrub or filler in beds or borders, as a hedge, or in containers. Where not winter hardy, it can be used outdoors as an annual in beds or as a container plant that can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse when low temperatures drop below 55 degrees.
